Kate Florence Phillips, 19, and was given a blue sapphire pendant on the RMS Titanic, by her runway lover, Henry Morley, 37. The two were fleeing to America when the Titanic sank from under them. Whilst Morley drowned, Phillips waited eight hours on a lifeboat.
The jewelry owned by Phillips, which has since been featured in Titanic exhibitions, is thought to have been the inspiration behind the “Heart of the Ocean” necklace in the film Titanic. (x)
